This year, if you didn’t set a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and if you don’t feel like hitting the gym, then we’ve got five guilt-free New Year’s resolutions for you. Your home deserves a mini makeover and you’ll feel great about investing time into revitalizing your home.
1. Get rid of the clutter.
You might not be an all-out hoarder, but all of us could do with less stuff. Nothing says refined and luxurious quite like clean and organized. You can organize your things into three categories: what you absolutely need, what you sometimes use, and junk. Rather than just throwing junk away, consider holding a garage sale. You’ve heard the saying, “Your junk is someone else’s treasure.”
2. Check for safety.
A home should not only look welcoming, it should also be safe. One in fifteen homes has elevated levels of radon, a colorless, odorless gas that causes about 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year. You can test for radon yourself using a test kit you can purchase at your local hardware store.
You should also be sure to test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are working properly. Check the owner’s manual for instructions on how to perform a simple test. Don’t hesitate to reach out to the Blue Apple Electric team with any questions about replacing these detectors.
3. Install LED bulbs.
If you’re ready for lower utility bills, then LED bulbs are definitely worth the investment. LED bulbs will quickly pay for themselves in energy savings and will last longer than standard light bulbs.
4. Add some plants.
If your home seems a little dreary, then maybe you need some greenery — and not just outside. Consider adopting a few house plants; leafy green plants and bright flowers will give your home a refreshing and revitalizing look.
5. Update your ceiling fans.
If your ceiling fans are as old as your grandmother, then you’re definitely past due for an upgrade. Modern ceiling fans are more energy-efficient, have a cleaner look and will bring your home into the 21st century.
